“I’m Not So Sure He Will” – Former Player Fears For Spurs Stars Future

|

Speaking ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s 2018/19 Premier League curtain closer on Sunday against Everton at our new White Hart Lane Stadium former player, and caretaker gaffer, Tim Sherwood gave his thoughts on what will be a massive story for Spurs this summer – the future of Denmark international Christian Eriksen.

Everyone knows the rumours about Real Madrid’s apparent interest in the player and the fact that a new contract has not yet been agreed with the 27-year-old, and the rumour mill is already in high gear on the speculation front.

With nine goals and 16 assists for the season, Sherwood recently told the Daily Express that although he’d be delighted to see the Dane sign up for longer, he feared that he would be off if Madrid make a firm offer for his services this summer.

“I would love to see Eriksen sign a new contract and commit his future to Tottenham, but I’m not sure that he will. I think we might see Eriksen in a Real Madrid shirt next season. Real Madrid are always just a phone call away from signing most players in the world because when that phone rings, it is very difficult to turn down Real Madrid. I think Real Madrid will be looking for Eriksen to replace Luka Modric in the heart of their midfield. Eriksen is good enough to play in any team in the world and he can play in a number of positions too, he’s that good.”

Given all the speculation it does have a feeling of only being a matter of time, but then it all comes down to price, but most fans will certainly be hoping he stays.
