“I Didn’t Feel Comfortable” – Spurs Man Undoubtedly Made The Right Decision

|

With news at the end of last week that Son Heung-Min had been crowned the London Football Awards Premier League Player of the Year, with manager Mauricio Pochettino picking up Manager of the Year, there was one particular story that certainly gained traction online.

Speaking to the Evening Standard with a good, albeit busy year behind him – three tournaments for South Korea and military exemption included – Sonny admitted that back in 2016 as he struggled to settle he had asked to leave the club, in the hopes of securing a move back to Germany.

“I came close to leaving. I went to the gaffer’s office and told him I didn’t feel comfortable and wanted to leave for Germany. The gaffer trusted me and I am so grateful. He made my dream come true. I am more than grateful to him – it is difficult to say. I have worked four years with the gaffer. It is just amazing.”

The 26-year-old did take time to adjust as all new signings do following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, but leaving then would’ve been a massive mistake – at least from our point of view – given how important he’s become for us and Pochettino. His goal return has become a key threat for us and for many fans, he’s already established himself as a modern day legend given his efforts.

He’s undoubtedly played his part in our improvements over the years, even if we’re in a bit of a sticky spell given last week’s double defeat but the draw against Arsenal did draw a line on that.
