“He’s Got A Better Team At Tottenham” – Former Gaffer Not Convinced With United Rumours

|

Given Jose Mourinho’s departure from Manchester United earlier this week, and the subsequent rumours linking Mauricio Pochettino with the job, it was probably only a matter of time before former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp was asked for his thoughts.

Chatting with Jim White on Talksport (Wed – 10.50), the topic of our Argentine came up as you’d expect, and although Redknapp couldn’t deny United were one of the biggest teams out there, he questioned why Poch would leave the better side at this moment in time, and run the risk of success being out of his hands given the problems at Old Trafford and the amount of work needed to turn them around.

“Would he leave Spurs to go there at the moment? He’s got a better team at Tottenham. I don’t know. Maybe he sees Tottenham as a team that he can win trophies with? There’s a lot of work to be done at Man United to build a good team. Where do you get the players? Where are they? Where do you find players now? It’s getting more and more difficult. And they’re way short of being anywhere near the top couple of teams at the moment.”

Redknapp makes a perfectly good couple of points there. Spurs are outperforming United and we’re a side on the up, so why would Poch ruin his own work to start back at square one with a fanbase living in the past, rather than their current reality, as given how previous managers have been treated, you’d need your head testing in my humble.

Poch is better suited at Spurs and should there be truth in the rumours, why move to a club on a downward spiral when you have the accepted European giants on your doorstep?
