“He Doesn’t Need A PFA Nomination” – Legend Names Invaluable Spurs Star & It’s Not Kane

|

With the Professional Footballers Association releasing their six man shortlist for Player of the Year this last week, Tottenham Hotspur legend Clive Allen expressed his shock at not seeing South Korean international Son Heung-Min on the list.

It’s been a bad week for the PFA given their Team of the Year selections have also been roundly criticised given the illogical appearance of Paul Pogba in the line up otherwise dominated by Manchester City and Liverpool, as plenty of fans have pointed out even Moussa Sissoko has had a better year than he has.

Going back to Sonny though, his importance for manager Mauricio Pochettino has been obvious for all this season, especially the way he’s raised his game even further in the absence of Harry Kane and since we arrived back on home soil, and Allen was quoted by Football London (via BeIN Sports) this week that he felt he was even more key to us, and consistent, than Kane was now.

“He doesn’t need a PFA nomination, he’s been absolutely outstanding. The last two years I think he has been Spurs’ most consistent player. Obviously Harry Kane’s scoring record is second to none but Son has been absolutely superb. He’s stepped up when Harry hasn’t been there, worked with him when he has been there. For me, he should have been one of the contenders for player of the year.”

There will be plenty of fans who agree 100% with the point he makes and that’s certainly not a dig in Kane’s direction either.
