Former Spurs striker tips Pochettino to come back to North London

The permanent managerial vacancy remains open at Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, and various reporters are suggesting that the race is finally beginning to reach the latter stages, with only a couple of candidates left on the shortlist.

However, today one interesting name resurfaced as the time for pre-season preparations edged closer, and that name is one that Spurs fans have a true affinity with.

Of course, the person we are talking about is PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino, who failed to secure his club a Ligue 1 title – but don’t read into that too much as they were in even more trouble when the Argentine took over.

Former Spurs striker Darren Bent believes that the failure to win the French top flight title could pave the way for him to complete an incredible return to the club he made his name at.

“For Spurs supporters, getting [Pochettino] back, they’d absolutely love it,” Bent told TalkSport.

“He did a superb job at Tottenham [before] getting to the end of that cycle. And just when you needed Daniel Levy to put his hand in his pocket and reinvest in the squad, he fired him.”

Pochettino’s PSG have struggled this season, bowing out in the Champions League after being dismantled by Manchester City and then losing out on the French Ligue 1 title to Lille.

“I was quite surprised I didn’t hear reports saying PSG wanted to replace [Pochettino],” said Bent. “Because when you don’t win the French league at PSG, with the players they’ve got, you have to say something is seriously wrong.

“If Daniel Levy ever wanted to appease the fans and get them back onside, that would be a way to do it.

“If he’s not enjoying his time at PSG, he’s going to want to go somewhere he is going to be loved. And the Spurs fans absolutely love him – they still speak about him now! So I guess it’s an opportunity.”

The other contenders for the position currently consist of Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, Brighton boss Graham Potter and unemployed German genius Ralf Rangnick, while Roberto Martinez is reportedly out of the running.
