With Mauricio Pochettino open to the idea of not signing a replacement for Kieran Trippier, Tottenham could go into next season with Kyle Walker-Peters, Serge Aurier and Juan Foyth to choose from at right-back. According to David Hytner and Fabrizio Romano of the Guardian, Pochettino is ‘confident’ of turning Foyth into a natural right-back.
As per Transfermarkt, The 21-year-old started in the makeshift role on a handful of occasions last season – against Manchester City (Premier League) on April 20, West Ham (Premier League) on April 27 and Ajax (Champions League) on April 30. Foyth was used as a right-back for Argentina as the national team reached the semi-finals of this summer’s Copa America too.
The young defender racked up more minutes (888) than Aurier (563) and Walker-Peters (374) in the Premier League last season and might be in pole position to replace Trippier as a result. Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard believes that Foyth will be given a chance to nail down a starting place in 2019/20.
With Aurier still available for sale and Walker-Peters being low down the pecking order, Foyth could indeed be Tottenham’s right-back going into next season.
