Explained: Tottenham may have to pay £63m for £12k-per-week AS Roma man

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Nicolo Zaniolo as Mauricio Pochettino looks to strengthen his options in attack. The 19-year-old is coming off the back of a breakthrough season at AS Roma and has attracted interest from a host of European clubs as a result.

Roma are understandably keen to keep Zaniolo given his potential, but the Italian giants will let the £12k-per-week forward leave if a side matches his £63m asking price. Tottenham could lose Christian Eriksen this summer, so Zaniolo could be his long-term replacement.

He made 27 Serie A appearances for Roma last season, scoring (4) and creating (2) six goals. Zaniolo has made 18 chances, 41 successful dribbles (54%), averaged 20 passes-per-game with 81% accuracy, won 13 aerial duels (30%), whipped in 34 crosses with 18% accuracy, hit the target with 38% of his 48 shots and averaged a tackle (35) or interception (13) every 37 minutes.

The Italian international can operate as an attacking-midfielder and on the right-wing so he’d be a useful playing the Tottenham squad. Whether Spurs are willing to pay £63m remains to be seen, however. They may want a tried and tested player who can make an instant impact for that price.
