Report: Spurs ready move for £36m-rated midfield sensation amid competition from Euro giants

|

With Daniel Levy seemingly ready to end our transfer window exile, a host of names across Europe have come out of the proverbial woodwork to be linked with a move to us. After reports of a big-money bid for Giovani Lo Celso, the latest man in the spotlight is AS Roma’s prodigy Nicolo Zaniolo.

According to Italian publication Tuttosport (via Calcio Mercato), Spurs are ‘readying’ a £40m move for the midfield sensation, but that there is likely to be considerable interest from Roma’s Serie A rivals Juventus.

The reports adds that discussions between the two Italian sides have already begun over a player-plus-money deal, although it is suggested that Roma could find Spurs’ cash-only bid far more tempting.

Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, Zaniolo has enjoyed a meteoric rise this season since joining from Inter, with his form earning him his first senior cap for Italy in the 2-0 win over Finland.

The central midfielder has earned rave reviews for his performances, and became the youngest player since Francesco Totti to score three Serie A goals. At just 19, he could form the heartbeat of our side with Harry Winks alongside him, both incredibly calm and composed on the ball.

He also showed that he has an eye for goal from deeper in midfield, chipping in with six goals and two assists this season. With Christian Eriksen edging closer to the exit door, having someone like Zaniolo who could provide a goal threat can ease the pressure on the likes of Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.
