Exclusive: “Expect To See” Southampton Star “In A Tottenham Shirt Next Season”

|

Here at Vital Spurs we always welcome contributions, but we don’t often do potential ‘exclusives’. However, this submission and the claim intrigued me as I certainly wouldn’t be against seeing Southampton midfielder and fringe England man James Ward-Prowse in our shirt next season.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino knows the 24-year-old well from his time at St Mary’s and having arrived at the club in late January, 2013, Ward-Prowse made seven appearances under him in the second half of the campaign. In his full season in charge, he was called on 39 times. Ward-Prowse has long been highly rated at the club given their Academy success, but having stalled in his development as Southampton struggled, he’s reinvigorated under Ralph Hasenhuttl this season, and since we turned into 2019, he’s scored six times in 13 games.

Spurs fans will remember him from our defeat to Southampton in early March and his quality on the ball, as well as from set pieces, is obvious to all.

It’s for each fan to make their own mind up here obviously and no doubt there will be a section of fans who don’t believe Ward-Prowse would be the calibre of signing required to take us to the next level, I’d tend to disagree on that given how Pochettino develops players further, but that’s me.

Ultimately, we’ll see over the summer and find out if we have a reliable ITK to lean on. Suffice to say, after some chat with the writer, I’m choosing to put it out there and in light of the more usual speculation we see at the club, this one has a more realistic feel to it given how Pochettino prefers to work and manage.

As ever though, ‘in the shirt, on the pitch’ is the only guaranteed barometer when it comes to transfer speculation.

The heads of the Tottenham recruitment squad are being challenged to seek young athletic replacements for Spanish bound Christian Eriksen.

It has already been agreed by the management that any bid north of £100million will be accepted and Mauricio Pochettino will be given this and more to strengthen our squad.

Top of Mauricio’s list is the Southampton midfield maestro James Ward-Prowse. There has been a lot of rubbish written about Tottenham targets for the next window but this one will definitely happen.

The player is keen, he is top of Mo Po’s list and Southampton are a selling club who we can do business with. Relegation for the Saints would make this deal a certainty but even if they survive you can expect to see James Ward-Prowse in a Tottenham shirt next year.
