Every word Eddie Howe said about Nathan Ake joining Tottenham, Chelsea and Man Utd

|

Eddie Howe wasn’t in any mood to discuss the future of Nathan Ake and says he doesn’t want to unsettle him by talking about Premier League clubs who are interested in his signature.

The Bournemouth defender has been linked with the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United, but the Cherries boss played down the rumours as he believes it’s “not the time” for speculation.

When asked about Nathan Ake’s future amid interest from so many clubs, Howe told the Bournemouth Echo: “We are in the middle of the season and it is not the time, especially with players who are very settled and in good form, for me to necessarily talk about transfer speculation regarding them.

“He has been very consistent. Nathan is the type of player who suits the consistency of playing and he has got better and better as the season has gone on. He always shows a great attitude, is very level-headed and I am very pleased with him.”

Ake has made 85 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth since joining from Chelsea in 2017. The Netherlands international has been a regular in the Premier League, featuring in 32 games this season.

He’s made 204 clearances, won 70 aerial duels (53%), has blocked 33 shots, averages 44 passes-per-game with 86% accuracy and has averaged a tackle (46) or interception (27) every 39 minutes.

The 24-year-old, who can play left-back and centre-back, wouldn’t come cheap this summer, but he would improve the Tottenham squad. If Toby Alderweireld does leave as expected in the coming months, Ake wouldn’t be a bad replacement. Spurs will have a lot of competition for his signature.
