Dele Alli could leave Tottenham, Inter & PSG want transfer, Mourinho eyes Manchester United outcast

|

Dele Alli has an uncertain future at Tottenham after being dropped from the matchday squad by Jose Mourinho. The 24-year-old played in our 1-0 defeat to Everton (September 13), was left out of our Europa League win over Lokomotiv Plovdiv (September 17) and was left out of our 5-2 victory over Southampton (September 20).

Mourinho told the Guardian that Alli could return ahead of Tuesday’s EFL Cup clash with Leyton Orient, but his long-term future is uncertain. Clubs are learning of his potential availability and we’ve been linked with a potential replacement from Manchester United. The transfer window shuts on October 5, so we have two weeks to finish all of our summer business.

What happened to Alli?

Gradual decline. The England international has made 223 appearances in all competitions, scoring 62 goals with 55 assists, but he’s not been at his best in the last 12 months and it’s cost him his place with the national team. Alli’s last appearance for England came in the summer of 2019 and he’s now been dropped at club level too.

What clubs are after him?

The Guardian say Inter Milan and Paris Saint-Germain are among the clubs interested in Alli’s signature, but it remains to be seen how much they’re willing to pay.

We paid £6m for Alli in 2015, but Transfermarkt say he’s now worth £57.6m while CIES Football Observatory have his value at €50m-€70m (£45.8m-£64m). Not cheap.

The 24-year-old has four years remaining on his deal too, so we hold all the cards when it comes to negotiations. The only issue is that we may price clubs out of making a move if we set our sights too high. Time will tell.

Who is Mourinho eyeing as his replacement?

Jesse Lingard… I have no idea why Mourinho would replace on out-of-form playmaker with another from Manchester United, but this rumour isn’t going away.

Lingard is considering a move away from Old Trafford as he’s no longer commanding a starting place, having scored only one goal in his last 42 Premier League games while failing to make an assist in his last 36.

The 27-year-old has a £30m asking price which is far too high, so I don’t see the benefit in signing him.

In other news, where is Gedson Fernandes and will he play for Tottenham this season?
