Damien Duff to join Spurs within 48 hours
Being half a world away from N17 has many disadvantages, from not getting to see a game at White Hart Lane to joining the Spurs forums to find the rest of the world offline but sometimes, just sometimes it has an advantage.
Returning to work on this Monday morning as the UK goes to sleep and after being away from my notebook for two days I make the decision to put off work, my priority is knowledge; Tottenham, transfer news, Italy. Do we still own Carrick and what does it all mean?
I begin the hunt and my brain goes into meltdown with information overload, players going here, players linked there, some potential good news, some very bad news and more and more rumour and innuendo than is humanly possible to absorb.
At a little after midnight there is a ‘bleep’ on my Internet radar and it stops me dead.
Damien Duff is to join Spurs within 48 hours, my mind spins back a couple of weeks, hadn’t Chelsea just offered a new contract? Had he signed it? A more little research and the answers appear to be yes and no. Newcastle are found with their hand up, confirming the potential availability and then are dismissed, they have no money.
Then up pops The Sun, a rumour rag held with little esteem, similar story, Duff had a medical over the weekend, the price 9.2-11 million pounds, but not a quote in sight.
Sounds absolutely fantastic, maybe even looks positive but there is only one person that I can trust, a person whose real name I don’t know and will never meet. I hunt for the man, find him and there is confirmation, this man has not been wrong in the time that I have known of him and valued his information.
By the time this is read, there may be further news but believe me Spurs fan, we have signed Damien Duff.
