Cricket Lesson For Spurs Fans

Now I know that if you’ve been supporting Tottenham for a long time now you suffer from the same affliction as countless other embittered spurs fans. Lack of FAITH. So many promises, so little to show.

Yet here we find ourselves once again within reaching distance of something really substantial and the threat of it disappearing looms large!

Don’t know if you follow cricket (my girl is an Aussie) but yesterday I witnessed a truly historic and dramatic one day game between Australia and South Africa. Aus set a new world record total of runs for 50 overs, 434. Amazing. Truly amazing. At half time the south African mascot could be seen hiding behind the bleachers head in hands. What was the point in watching? South Africa hadn’t a hope in hell! They went from 11-3 all the way out to 146-1.

And then every person watching got a lesson about life and sport.

We know nothing!

If we did we would all be millionaires from betting! Indeed people lost a fortune on the game yesterday (around £1 million). There was one opportunist who at some point put £9 on south Africa and made about £2,000!

The game went right to the wire. Second last ball, last wicket, no finger nails.

South Africa scored 438 to win what is now being called the greatest one day game ever! Amazing.

What has this got to do with Spurs? Well I’m sure you can see where I’m going with this. Humans don’t like to get hurt( well some do but they’re weird) and thus we don’t like to get our expectations up for fear of them being destroyed. It is much easier to start the season expecting relegation than expecting European football. If you get relegated you haven’t lost cause you knew what to expect!

Spurs are in a position that I personally think some are having problems dealing with. somewhere inside of you I’m sure there’s a little bit of you that would like see spurs a bit down the table chasing rather than leading cause if they didn’t catch anyone it would be ok cause you knew what to expect!

Set your sights higher! Why the hell should they let it all slip now? Who’s to say they can’t make 3rd! If They do qualify for the champions league there will no shortage of people saying they never doubted it!

I refuse to say anything except that I have every belief that spurs can finish this season with a flourish! I myself am going to the games at the Lane to add my voice and support! It’s important that you stay positive cause your attitude can have a indirect influence on the players on the pitch.. consider this..

You moan about spurs’ chances with a mate at work. Your mate has tickets to a spurs game but goes along with your opinions fresh in his mind. At the game spurs go one down and your friend starts thinking your right, Stalteri is c**p. Stalteri goes to take a throw in and your mate hurls abuse at him! Stalteri’s confused cause he thought the guy shouting was supposed to be backing Spurs!!!

I’m nearly done..

Nobody said that anything was going to be easy this season and definitely not in the run in. There are tough games ahead but why should spurs not come out on top? There are no reasons. We have a young talented squad that can beat anybody on their day. So please stop thinking negatively and a have a bit more optimism. It’s hard but frankly if the supporters don’t believe why should the players?

South Africa’s achievement yesterday should be a lesson to all. It really and truly is never over till the fattest of Ladies has not only sung but left the building!

Come on the Spurs!
