Corriere Dello Sport embarrass themselves with fake news about ‘Tottenham-target’ – opinion

Tottenham are likely to strengthen the squad in the summer transfer market after curbing their spending in the last two transfer windows, but one player that won’t be signed is Ivan Perisic. Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham continue to be linked by the Italian and English media.

Corriere Dello Sport (h/t The Sun) can’t let this rumour die and have reported that Spurs are still keeping tabs on the 30-year-old’s progress. Perisic has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time, but the chance of him coming to England now couldn’t be more remote.

The Croatian international has struggled for form in 2018/19 and doesn’t present value for money. In the Champions League, he failed to score or make an assist. In Serie A, he’s made only two assists since October 2018 and has scored only two goals since December.

Perisic reportedly has an asking price of £30m, but why would a club pay so much for the out-of-form 30-year-old? Tottenham have Erik Lamela, Lucas Moura, Christian Eriksen and Heung-min Son who can play in his position, so it makes little sense to bring in below-par competition.
