Chelsea: Gauging our Progress (Preview to follow)

Following a comprehensively convincing season-opening victory over Southampton, Spurs make the trip to West London to face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Sunday, 4.30 pm kick-off and live on Sky Sports for those not making the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Although there are no easy games in the Premiership, it isn’t unreasonable to assume that Chelsea will ask more pressing questions of our heroes than our friends from the South coast did last Saturday. In essence, this is essentially the first acid test of our mettle and can act as a provisional gauge for how far we’ve come since the end of last season. Although the signs over pre-season were promising in that respect, and last weekend’s display was truly scintillating, this challenge, at a ground which has not been the happiest of places over the past few years, will be very telling.

I could sit here for an eternity and type out the stats about our record at the Bridge, but what good is that?  It would merely perpetuate a negative narrative, which we’re all too aware of, but we’ve got to back the lads, and negative statistics won’t do that. Yes, facts are facts, but let’s look forward to the future, not back to the past. We’re a different side now to the one that crashed out of the league cup without laying a glove on them, and Chelsea are a team in turmoil. Whatever happens, come 6.30 pm on Sunday, let’s be positive, and get behind the lads. COYS!
