Chelsea: Gauging our Progress (Preview to follow)

|

Following a comprehensively convincing season-opening victory over Southampton, Spurs make the trip to West London to face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea on Sunday, 4.30 pm kick-off and live on Sky Sports for those not making the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Although there are no easy games in the Premiership, it isn’t unreasonable to assume that Chelsea will ask more pressing questions of our heroes than our friends from the South coast did last Saturday. In essence, this is essentially the first acid test of our mettle and can act as a provisional gauge for how far we’ve come since the end of last season. Although the signs over pre-season were promising in that respect, and last weekend’s display was truly scintillating, this challenge, at a ground which has not been the happiest of places over the past few years, will be very telling.

I could sit here for an eternity and type out the stats about our record at the Bridge, but what good is that?  It would merely perpetuate a negative narrative, which we’re all too aware of, but we’ve got to back the lads, and negative statistics won’t do that. Yes, facts are facts, but let’s look forward to the future, not back to the past. We’re a different side now to the one that crashed out of the league cup without laying a glove on them, and Chelsea are a team in turmoil. Whatever happens, come 6.30 pm on Sunday, let’s be positive, and get behind the lads. COYS!

Interesting game. We must overcome our inferiority complex we have at Chelsea (one win in 37 attempts). A repeat of our usual meek performance at The Bridge will do serious damage to the feel good factor at Spurs at the moment.
One factor to figure is the weather – it is due to be 90 degrees plus at kick off time – will this be beneficial due to our fitness levels or will it inhibit our ability to play our high pressing game.
Although we will more than likely start with the same players that finished the last two or three months of last season, it seems to be a completely different team.
We are in for an interesting afternoon. COYS

A very interesting game, DH. If we play near to our optimum, Chelsea might be in trouble, if we don’t, we might be in trouble. It should be an exciting and competitive match. I think most Spurs fans will be thinking we can get something out of this one. Personally, I think we can get everything out of it. Well, it is the optimistic part of the season!

    Waiting for the matchday thread.

For the first time in a while, I feel optimistic about our chaes going to Stamford Bridge. Not only is there a feel good factor about our club at the moment, I feel there is a bit of unrest at Chelsea and it probably is the right time to play them.

They still have very good players and the ability to punish us, but for the first time in a while, they’ll be looking at our team thinking they have a realy problem on their hands.

I would happily take a draw now given our record at Chelsea, but I feel we are capable of that and more. I am looking forward to it, which is more than I can usually say about going to Chelsea.

With all things considered, if not now then when ? Nothing but 3 points will suffice at the end of the day. Relish the pressure and succeed, nothing less will do. To dare is to do. COYS !!!

It’s as good a time to go there as any. I think we’ve reached a point under Conte where we can expect a certain performance level from the team. The unknown is what state are Chelsea actually in ? The game will tell us more about them than us. I don’t normally focus too much on early season games, we saw how things yoyo’d over the season last time. But with the world cup mid season piling up points early may prove very important.
