Bologna defender becomes latest player on Spurs’ shortlist

Each day that passes is one less day that the next manager of Spurs will have to prepare for pre-season, and with that just round the corner, it seems the board are pressing ahead with sounding out transfer targets and negotiating potential deals.

However, it’s unlikely that a signing will be made until a manager is appointed – but the club have still already reportedly agreed a deal with one mystery player, who will pen a contract should the next manager give the green light.

With the defence area being a priority for the club before the new season, Fabio Paratici has already started working down a list of targets with Daniel Levy and Steve Hitchen, and a new name has entered the fray as one of the club’s top targets – Bologna defender Takehiro Tomiyasu.

The Japanese right-back, who can also play as a central defender, is desperate to play in the Premier League and he could be available for just £15 million – which the scouting team believe is a bargain.

At just 22-years-old, Tomiyasu has earned admirers from all over Europe for his versatility, ability to play out from the back, and bomb up and down the right flank.

He also was able to pop up with two goals for his side, proving his attacking qualities too.

But after playing just over half of his games last season in the Serie A at centre-back, it is believed that he would be a perfect fit in Paratici’s favoured three-man defence system as the right-sided centre-back, providing competition to Japhet Tanganga for the role.

His arrival would also likely spell the end of Davinson Sanchez’ Spurs career, but it wouldn’t stop the club from pursuing another centre-back and a new right-back, with Jules Kounde, Joachim Andersen, Tariq Lamptey and Max Aarons all also targets.

Tomiyasu could also be joined at Spurs by his compatriot Daichi Kamada, who has been on Spurs’ shortlist for a while now too, and it is believed that the club are very interested in securing the Frankfurt attacking-midfielder’s services.
