Toby Alderweireld’s future has been a hot talking point at Tottenham Hotspur for a while now.
Will he leave the club this summer with the £25million release clause in his contract surely a carrot for rival sides? Or will he commit his future to us and decide that remaining in north London is what is best for him?
Manchester United and even arch-rivals Arsenal have been linked with a move for the enforcer this summer because of his current contract situation.
Well, it would seem the latter of the two questions would be the answer where Alderweireld is concerned.
Twitter user Ricky Sacks has revealed that the Belgian has confirmed his desire to remain at Tottenham beyond the summer.
“I still have a contract – so I’ll be there. After a few weeks of vacation, I’ll have the freshness and the desire to start the season again at Tottenham,” he has been quoted as saying, although where he has said it is questionable.
It seems that is a consensus amongst a number of supporters as well, with many doubtful that Alderweireld has actually committed himself to the club and is instead just saying the things we all want to hear.
Even Sacks replied to a comment made by one fan suggesting that he was not entirely convinced and stressed it should not be taken as ‘gospel’.
The majority of supporters had felt his comments were just part of a PR stunt, with one suggesting he was doing a better job than Christian Eriksen in that department following his latest comments about his own future (Ekstra Bladet). Here are some of their reactions…
Hmmm… lets see how things develop when inevitably the £25m clause is met this summer. He is saying all the right things but I am almost certain he will be gone by the end of the transfer window.

Not sure this qualifies as confirmation. He’s just better at PR than Eriksen.

He’s good as gone. Someone will pay the 25m clause this summer. Just hoping it isn’t someone within the Prem honestly

Sadly this means nothing. He isn’t going to say publicly he’s leaving, his PR team have dealt with this well but I can’t see people refusing his 25m release clause

Its called PROFESSIONALISM. Of course He is gonna say that. What He says and what He does is entirely different. He has to put his name on the dotted line, otherwise He is leaving..

£25m and he’s gone. I can think of at least 10 clubs that it would be a no-brainer for.
