Roles has been rewarded with a two-year contract and now has a chance to push for promotion to the first-team. He rose through the youth ranks to the reserve side in 2017 and has made 32 appearances in total, scoring and creating 17 goals.
The youngster operated in a variety of roles last season – centre-midfield, left-midfield, attacking-midfield and up front. Roles has shown himself to have a good eye for goal and creates numerous chances for his teammates too. He scored eight goals and made three assists in 19 Premier League 2 games.
Mauricio Pochettino needs more depth in midfield after failing to replace Mousa Dembele, but it might be some time before Roles gets a run out in the senior squad. He currently has Oliver Skipp, Harry Winks, Dele Alli, Victor Wanyama, Mousa Sissoko and Eric Dier ahead of him in the pecking order.
Regardless, the 20-year-old is highly rated and is coming off the back of his best season at Tottenham.
