Conte reacts to his side’s emotional win

|

Conte has stated “I’m proud to be the coach of this team” following his sides well fought 1-0 victory away to a tricky Brighton side.

Kane’s instinctive header at the half hour mark dealt Brighton their first home defeat since March. In a game that was clouded over by the emotional tributes to Spurs fitness coach Gian Piero Ventrone, who sadly passed away on Thursday.

Conte clearly emotional throughout the game, struggled to keep back the tears as the stadium paid tribute, to his colleague and friend.

Conte: “Many times we tried to find the motivation to push these players and to create a situation and to increase the tension. Today honestly, I did nothing under this aspect. I left them to face the situation and they showed me to be really good people, top men. I said to them just now that I’m proud to be the coach of this team because first of all we have top men and really good players.”

Life sometimes is not good. At the same time, you have to cope with the situation in the best possible way, and then I am sure Gian Piero will stay with us forever. I am sure about this.”

Goal scorer Harry Kane took to social media after the game:

“Really proud of the boys for digging deep after a really tough week. You know Gian Piero affected our lives in a big big way and he’d have been proud of the way we dug deep to win that game together. So, he’ll be with us for the whole season and the rest of our lives for sure. Pushing us all the way like he did when he was here.”

Spurs fans were happy to see the return of Oliver Skipp after a lengthy layout and Matt Doherty- who made his first start of the season.

Conte: “I’m happy that Oliver Skipp came back with us and I’m happy for Matt Doherty to come back after a long injury. There was a lot of positive things, and we go away from here with a lot of confidence.”

Man on the match, Ryan Sessegnon impressed throughout the game with his intensity and drive. The England under-21 star dedicated his MOTM award to Gian Piero Ventrone “he would be very proud of us!”

Conte and his men made us Spurs fans immensely proud today in what was a tough evening for all.

Sess played a strong game and really helped out defending and getting up the field. Very active which is something Spurs need from that position. His finishing or final cross is just not there yet. Maybe the more opportunities he gets will improve those skills but hard to really tell.
The three man midfield made a huge difference and allowed Hoij and Bentancor to get further up the pitch and pressure the ball more. We still only had 41% of possession but it was stronger before we scored that first goal. It seemed we took our foot off the gas after that goal.
A super creative midfield player is Spurs missing ingredient. Someone who can hold and bring the ball up, make the passes to our skilled forwards. What a positive difference that would make.

Workmanlike result but oh so boring. Brighton played the football but we sneaked a win thanks to Harry and Son.
Doherty and Sessegnon not good enough. No creative player in midfield…2 attackers and nine defenders plus 7 defenders on the bench. This is not the Spurs way.

I thought it was a decent result after a difficult week.
As I said on another post, the loss of a colleague, being beaten last week, difficult ‘away CL game,
playing against a fresh team who had had a decent result against “pool”.
If Sons disallowed long distance shot went in, would that have been a comfortable win??
HT yep we are second in in long distance goals, my issue is that we don’t shoot enough from distance.
Yep we could be better on the eye, but for me we’re losing that ‘Spursy’ tag.
We are still on a rebuild and for me two years ahead of where we should be.
Our team were playing a different system with three fresh players slotted in
Doh first full game after injury, but he was shit?
Sess got MOM, but he was shit (come on)
I do agree we are not easy on the eye, and indeed it’s not the Spurs way.
I did think we were a better watch around April last year, but perhaps AC is trying to manage games a bit better this year in order to compete on all fronts.
Hard too beat, cagey away from home, a bit more expansive at the stadium.
But agreed we could be a “nicer watch”.

Well said there Niall, 100% behind you regards Sess n Doh!

Shitehawks had more possession! great, how many clear cuts did they make!

      A well managed game…NEXT!

CL on Wednesday, bring it on. COYS

If we needed any examples of how differently people perceive the world we had it in yesterday’s match. Sess was man of the match and complete crap. Is it possible to be both? I suppose it is. If all players were complete crap then someone who was complete crap can be man of the match. Were all players yesterday complete crap? If not, how was Sess man of the match and complete crap? I suppose it depends on what each of us saw, and it cannot be the same as what others saw.

    Subjectivity at it’s most extreme.

Oh well, I suppose there are those who see BoJo the Jester and Her Trussness as the saviors of western civilization. There are always some who see to world in ways that bypass others. I thought Sess played as well as he has since coming to Spurs, but I’d be tempted to say that Hojbjorg was MotM. The best I’ve seen him play.

  • TK says:

Her Trussness provides a challenge to Galileo: some objects do fall at a greater velocity than others. She’s started the season like Nottingham Forest: Two objects that found the fastest way to the bottom. But then again, Nottingham hasn’t lost every match and we can’t say that about Her Trussness. Both are providing similar amusement to those who watch competitions and get joy from watching failure. Who can fall further faster to win the Lead Feather Award?

With a wee bit o’ luck, THFC can stay near the top o’ the table without playing satisfying football. THFC seems destined this season to frustrate its way to, or near to, a top four spot in the end. Nothing beautiful and lots that will be frustrating, but more successes than failures in the Conte manner.

    Back to football
    Saw, Arse against Liverpool
Was unsure who I wanted to win as Liverpool are as much supported here as, Man U.
And again their fans think it is their god given rite to win trophy.
With that said a DODGEY pen got Arse the points.
Just like the sending off last week, whilst not in the driving seat we were still in the game until that decision.
Looks like the cards, are falling for em this, season.
With that said if we can run our own race who knows, where we will finish.
