Another injury boost as Tottenham forward is ‘good and ready’ for Champions League final

|

Harry Kane says he’s “good and ready” to face Liverpool in the final of the Champions League on June 1. The Tottenham striker has been recovering from an ankle injury in recent weeks, causing him to miss Spurs’ last nine games in all competitions. Kane is back in training and will be in contention to start at the Wanda Metropolitano after successful rehabilitation.

As per BBC Sport, Kane said: “I feel good. There have been no problems so far. I started to feel my way back with the team at the end of last week. This week now is to get the fitness as high as possible. Then it’s down to the manager. The manager will assess it and decide whether I’m ready to go or not but, so far, I feel good and ready.”

The 25-year-old has made 39 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating 30 goals. Tottenham survived without Kane between mid-January and mid-February, but his most recent absence has led to their form spiralling.

In the Champions League, Spurs won just one of the three games Kane missed through injury. In the Premier League, Mauricio Pochettino’s side managed just two wins from six. So long as he’s 100% fit, it’s very likely that Kane will start against Liverpool.

The England international has scored five goals in nine meetings with the Merseysiders and has contributed six goals in eight Champions League games this season. Lucas Moura was the hero in the semi-finals and deserves to start in Madrid, but Pochettino needs to make room for Kane.

It’s hard to see one of Heung-min Son, Dele Alli or Christian Eriksen being dropped as they’ve been regulars in Europe this season, so time will tell how Tottenham line up on Saturday.
