Reports over the week were suggesting that Andy Reid might be allowed to leave White Hart Lane on loan with Harry Redknapps Spurs Two team being the likely destination.

However a report in The Sun today says that Portsmouth have opened talks with Tottenham to take him permanently. The figure quoted is £2million. Redknapp has already taken Sean Davis, Pedro Mendes and Noe Pamarot to the South Coast.

Reid joined from Nottingham Forest last season but has failed to make the impact expected. The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland winger has slowly fallen down the pecking order and is more regularly seen playing for the reserves this season.

Martin Jol has confirmed offers have been received for Reid and also Michael Brown but previously stated that neither player would be sold. However he did also say that about Sean Davis!

Jol told Sky Sports News: ‘Andy is a bit different, a wide player. I want to keep him. He’s one of the players who needs a bit of time. I think he’s a left-footer and I don’t have a lot of left-footers so, for him, it’s the same story. If we want to keep a player, we keep a player.’

He also spoke about Michael Brown. The Spurs boss said: ‘Yes (we’ve had offers) because Brown is a very good midfield player. I think he will do well for me as well. I want to keep him. Michael has showed me in the last three or four games, when he came on or played from the first minute, he did well. So I would like to keep him here.’
