Aaron Lennon’s FIVE best moments in a Spurs shirt

|

Today, former Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon has called time on his career at the age of 35, announcing his retirement via his Twitter page.

Lennon, most known for his pace and mazy dribbling, made 364 appearances for the Lilywhites across a 10-year spell at the club, contributing to 109 goals from the right-hand flank.

Following Lennon’s retirement, I thought it would be timely to recap on his best moments while at Spurs:

1) National Recognition

After joining Spurs from Leeds, Lennon would receive a nomination for the PFA Young Player of the Year in his debut season. The winger would receive another nomination the following season however the Spurs man would lose out to eventual winners Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo respectively.

2) 16 long years

Reigning champions Chelsea visited White Hart Lane in November of 2006, with Spurs looking to secure their first league win over Chelsea in 16 years.

Claude Makelele opened the proceedings, but Spurs soon replied through a Michael Dawson header. Lennon would then arguably bag one of his best Spurs goals, scoring the winner after calmly controlling the ball from a Robbie Keane cross and then slotting the ball in the far corner.

3) That winning feeling

In 2008, Lennon would win his first major honour when Spurs defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the League Cup final. Sadly, for Lennon it would be the only winners medal of his career with Spurs reaching the final again in 2009 but losing to Manchester United on penalties

4) Thrilling NLD comeback

In October 2008, Harry Redknapp’s Spurs side visited the Emirates and the game that followed went in down in Premier League history.

With the score at 4-3, Spurs were chasing an equaliser, the ball fell to Luka Modric whose deflected effort hit the post and fell to Lennon who slotted home into the empty net – sending the Spurs away end into pandemonium.

5) ‘THAT’ night in Milan

In Tottenham’s debut campaign in the Champions League, they faced off against Italian giants AC Milan in the round of 16.

The Lilywhites visited the San Siro for the first leg and after a cagey first 80 minutes, Spurs caught the Ronssieri on the counter with Lennon skinning his defender and then calmly squaring it to Peter Crouch.

The Lennon and Crouch combination was the only goal of the entire tie as Spurs held on for a 0-0 back at White Hart Lane, to reach their first ever Champions League quarter final.

Sad to see a whole thread on aaron lennon and no one responding. Loved that man’s pace, but not always his final touch.
