“A Very Special Situation” – Poch Remains Hopeful Spurs Star Will Commit His Future

|

With Tuesday evening’s Premier League clash between Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion being decided by a solitary goal from Christian Eriksen, his importance to the side and manager Mauricio Pochettino was gain clear to see.

According to statistics website Whoscored, the 27-year-old had a massive involvement in the game with 121 touches (the most of any player in the game) and he also had the most shots (seven), getting two on target as he helped himself to the winner.

With contract issues well known for the Dane, speaking to Sky Sports following the match, not only was Poch asked to comment on his performance, he was also asked whether there had been any further progress in potential talks between the player and the club.

“It is a situation that is a very special situation, Christian is a special person, I think we are all special, different and we need to understand that. The timing for him or for the club to be agreeing something are maybe different to another player. I hope and I wish Christian can be with us in the future but I think Christian and us we are so open to talk and we will see what happens. I think it is so close to the end of the season, a lot of time to talk after and I think the most important thing now, not only for him, is for all the players to be focused and try to achieve the things we want. We have a lot of big things ahead and we need to be focused only to try and recover, train and compete.”

A sensible response from the gaffer in many ways albeit there’s not much else he can say, but for fans it’ll do little to ease the concerns and it certainly won’t quell the ongoing speculation on the rumour mill.
