Unexpected Midweek Appearance Certainly Delights This Spurs Man

|

Tottenham Hotspur’s forgotten striker Vincent Janssen made his first appearance for manager Mauricio Pochettino in 20 months in Tuesday evening’s late victory over Brighton and Hove Albion at our new White Hart Lane Stadium.

The 24-year-old Dutchman hasn’t had the greatest of times at the club following his reported £17million arrival back in the summer of 2016 as he’s only made 12 starting appearances, with a further 28 substitute showings and in those games he’s returned six goals.

Having been loaned out to Fenerbache last season it appeared his time at the club was up, and by rights it still probably is, but with no January move coming about as he picked up an injury, he was back on the bench in midweek, coming on as an 80th minute substitute for Lucas Moura.

Plenty in the fanbase would’ve been surprised to see him named on the bench, let alone get on the pitch, but Eric Dier’s fantastic response probably sums up the spirit in the camp after the year we’ve had.
