Well, it seems Stephen Baker’s article has stirred up some good debate. Is Mido Worth £5million? Click Here

It has even led to his son Ed Baker emailing these comments in.

Personally I thought the article was balanced. I have to say that the goal against Wigan was absolute top quality BUT………

Having seen his performances against Blackburn, Wigan and Sunderland since his return from the African Cup of Nations, I don’t believe that he is as dangerous as he was pre-Christmas. That goal – 10 or so games into the season – vs Charlton away was brilliant.

Around that time we looked like a team that could take plenty of premiership sides to the cleaners and he was the fulcrum of the team. Now we look like we are hanging in there – see matches mentioned above!

It could be his weight but he has had 5 clubs in 6 years and he could turn out to be a player (like David James) who is liable to live on a reputation but needs a real kick to bring out the potential . I believe Jol is the man to do this but I would negotiate hard on the price rather than take the first price Roma offer: These days (outside Chelsea’s dealings)…..prices are not that high. If the buy-out clause is £4m – I would offer that and play hard ball for starters. Have you seen how many strikers they have and want?

If kept, his worth should be reflected in his wage packet as well as the price. He still has a lot to learn and he hasn’t proved his worth to the extent that he should be one of the top earners at the club. If he wants to stay at a top club – make him show it!

Also – comparing him to Rasiak is like comparing Chris Armstrong to Rebrov – better but that doesn’t mean he is a world beater. I think Ashton for example might have more potential but…..

Verdict – Depending on where we finish – Keep him but don’t get carried away – If he starts to believe the hype we may be in for a bumpy ride! And sort it out sooner rather than later.
