Tottenham announced the return of Michel Vorm on Monday evening and supporters are delighted to see him back. The 35-year-old was released over the summer but failed to sign for a new club. He will now spend the remainder of 2019/20 in London, providing cover for the injured Hugo Lloris.

While Vorm’s signing has been met with a positive rection from fans, it’s a strange move from Tottenham to bring him back on a short-term deal. If Paulo Gazzaniga can’t be trusted as the second-choice goalkeeper to Lloris, why was Vorm allowed to leave over the summer?
The Dutch international was a good servant in his five years at Tottenham (47 appearances in all competitions) and will provide a wealth of experience in a key area, but Vorm was still deemed surplus to requirements in 2018/19. He made only four appearances last season compared to Gazzaniga’s 11 too.
Whether Mauricio Pochettino will give Vorm the nod over Gazzaniga against Watford on Saturday remains to be seen, but Vorm surely wasn’t re-signed to sit on the bench when a reserve-team player could have been picked in his stead.
