WSL Preview: Reading vs Spurs

|

Tottenham Hotspur Women resume league action with a Women’s Super League trip to strugglers Reading tomorrow, with kick-off at the Select Car Leasing Stadium being 12:30 PM BST.

Spurs, currently in seventh with a goal difference of 0, can leapfrog Aston Villa and West Ham with a victory due to both sides’ inferior goal difference, while the best that Reading can hope for is to jump two places themselves from 11th to 9th. Only Leicester’s abject form has prevented them from being the league’s basement side up until now, and Royals boss Kelly Chambers will be hoping for an improved display in front of their own supporters.

However, Spurs will be very much fancying their chances, having already won at Reading this season, where goals from Ashleigh Neville and Nikola Karczewska helped Spurs to a 2-1 victory in the Conti Cup back in October, and for all the questions leveled against them in matches against the top sides, Rehanne Skinner’s side has generally been ruthless in matches against lower-ranked opposition this season.

Skinner will therefore be hoping for more of the same tomorrow afternoon, and is expected to revert to a stronger line-up than the one that dispatched Coventry United so efficiently in the Conti Cup last weekend.

How many changes Skinner will make, however, remains to be seen, given that Spurs have several fixtures coming up – including a rearranged midweek match against Everton to contend with in just under a fortnight – before the domestic action ceases temporarily for Christmas.
