With plenty of speculation linking Fulham starlet Ryan Sessegnon with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, deadline day is almost upon us and the rumour mill has certainly shifted into a higher gear in recent times.
With the expectation being that the deal for the 19-year-old talent will soon go through, former Spurs player and now pundit Danny Murphy has given his thoughts on the move and he seems to be of the impression that it would be a great signing for manager Mauricio Pochettino, describing the England youngster as a ‘wonderful talent’.
Speaking to the Mirror this week, Murphy said of the youngster.
“I think with all the speculation surrounding a young player it can affect you, so for his sake and for the club’s sake it would be better to just get it done and for everyone to move on. He’s a wonderful talent, and he would learn more playing another full season in the Championship but it’s difficult to focus when you’ve had your head turned. For me, it might be best for Fulham to just get the best deal done and let him learn at a Premier League club.”
Whether this deal does go through ahead of the deadline slamming shut remains open for debate, despite the hopes that he will soon be ours, as despite being left out of the opening game back in the Championship after relegation, manager Scott Parker seemed pretty confident he would remain with them this year despite the strong links to White Hart Lane.
It’ll soon be over until January cycles round, so we’ll just have to see.
As an update, late yesterday evening Sky Sports were reporting that they expected the deal to go through today as agreement was incredible close.
They also claimed we’d upped our offer for Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso to £55.5million.
