Which players could Graham Potter bring with him to Spurs?

|

As speculation heats up surrounding the next managerial appointment at Spurs by Daniel Levy, the candidates on the shortlist are beginning to be shortened.

Among those names is Brighton manager Graham Potter, who has earned plaudits this season for his attacking style of play despite being stuck in the bottom half of the table.

However, after delivering another season of Premier League football and developing a number of players to fit his style of play effectively, he has won over some of the Tottenham players already, and he is one of the favourites to be appointed. Here are three players that he may look to bring to North London with him should he join the club.

Tariq Lamptey

Former Chelsea right-back Lamptey has been a revelation since joining Brighton permanently, terrorising Premier League defenders and defending brilliantly against attackers.

His electric pace makes him a similar type of player to Kyle Walker, and a replacement for the now Manchester City star is something Spurs fans are crying out for.

Due to injuries, he has been limited to just 19 Premier League appearances since joining last January, but this season he already has one goal and one assist, and should be on more but as a result of Brighton’s poor chance conversion, his individual statistics don’t tell the full story.

Ben White

This season hasn’t been as productive as last season was for English defender White, who is also linked with Arsenal, Manchester United and AS Roma – where Jose Mourinho currently manages after leaving Spurs not long ago.

But, even despite not having as much of the lime-light as he did while on-loan at Leeds, the 23-year-old has gained valuable Premier League experience lining-up next to another Spurs target, Lewis Dunk, and he could be a smart purchase for Spurs.

At £40 million, it’s unlikely the club would move for him unless a few fringe/backup players can be offloaded like Davinson Sanchez, however he fits the homegrown in nation criteria for squad registration rules and has a vast amount of potential still – and he could become one of the best defenders in the league if not the world.

Yves Bissouma

Mali midfielder Bissouma is one of the most in-demand midfielders in Europe right now, after impressing over the course of the last few seasons, demonstrating superb defensive skills and awareness as well as tricky, skilful dribbling to get his team further up the field and create chances.

In many ways, he is like Mousa Dembele in that it is very difficult to get the ball of him and he will hunt it down when out of possession until he wins it back.

Bissouma, 24, is exactly the type of player Spurs need to pair with Tanguy Ndombele to allow the Frenchman the freedom to roam forward more and try more risky moves and passes, because while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has been a superb holding-midfielder, he doesn’t have the pace to keep up with counter-attacks like the Brighton midfielder does.
