What’s wrong with Defoe?

Jermain Defoe undoubtedly has the potential to be a 30 goal a season striker.

But since joining Spurs for £7million in 2004 he is yet to hold down a regular first team place.

Against Reading yesterday, Defoe came on off the bench like he so often seems to do, found space and created chances.

He even found the net and was wrongly adjudged as offside, just imagine how sharp he would be if he was playing week in week out?

Strangely he seems to be over looked at England level as well.

Despite being this countries most like for like replacement for the injured Michael Owen, he appears to be behind players such as Peter Crouch, Andy Johnson and Darren Bent as McClaren’s choice to partner Wayne Rooney.

So I’m asking, what is wrong with Defoe? He has pace, skill, a clever footballers brain and a proven scoring record, so why doesn’t he get more starts for club and country?
