What Sort Of Game Should Spurs Expect Against West Brom?

|

An away match at West Brom should really be a guaranteed three points considering how poorly the Baggies have played this season. However, they have undergone a mini-revival under caretaker manager Darren Moore.

They are still almost certain to be relegated to the Championship but during the interim boss’s four games in charge, they haven’t lost, taking eight points, whilst beating Manchester United and drawing against Liverpool in the process.

So, with that in mind, what should we expect from the encounter tomorrow?

Expect a physical game

Ahmed Hegazi somehow avoided a ban for punching Danny Ings in the stomach during the 2-2 draw against the Reds a couple of weeks ago. We can anticipate a high level of physical confrontation, and players like Dele will have to stay disciplined.

They know they are going down, but Moore has quickly instilled a team spirit that means they will not be going down without a fight, both figuratively and literally speaking.

Facing a low block

The last four games have seen West Brom move away from the 4-3-3/4-5-1 favoured under Pardew. With the lack of pace in the team, the Baggies will look to sit deep and play on the counter-attack.

Out of possession, they will sit there with two banks of four, looking to soak up the pressure, and use Matt Phillips and James McClean to retrieve clearances on the wings. It’s not sophisticated, but the likes of Eriksen and Dele will struggle to find gaps in between the lines tomorrow.

Targeting Set Pieces

As they were under Pulis, our opponents remain very strong from corners and free kicks. The accurate delivery of Chris Brunt will cause Hugo Lloris and the defence considerable trouble.

The majority of their goals have come from set-pieces this season, but I am confident we will be able to nullify their threat if the team do their jobs properly.

Two up top

Under Moore, Salomon Rondon has been playing as the target man with Jay Rodriguez playing in a deeper role to give them more of a threat in the attacking third.

The Venezuelan scored the equalising goal against Liverpool while the former England international scored the winning goal versus Manchester United. Both now have ten goals for the season, and will both offer different threats tomorrow afternoon.
