Tottenham have collected four points from their opening two games in the 2024/25 Premier League campaign and there has been a lot to like about the performances in those matches.

Here is a look at what they may tell us about the year ahead.

Spurs Will Be Top Four Challengers At the Very Least

The minimum goal for Tottenham this season is to qualify back into the Champions League. They will need a top-four finish in the standings to guarantee that. There is a lot of competition for those places, including from Liverpool and Manchester United. Those two sides face each other this weekend where Liverpool are the 4/5 favourites in the bet on Man Utd v Liverpool odds.

Tottenham are 33/1 in the Premier League title odds and 9/4 for a top four finish. They have shown enough in the early stages of the season to suggest they can secure the latter. Spurs finished two points outside the top four in the 2023/24 campaign and they are better equipped for the challenge ahead this time.

Ange Postecoglou will be hoping his side build on their positive start when they take on Newcastle at St James’ Park. It will be their toughest test yet, as the Magpies are also one of the contenders for one of the Champions League places this season.

Goals Should Flow

Tottenham impressed in front of goal in their clinical 4-0 victory over Everton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Yves Bissouma opened the scoring in the game, Son Heung-min netted a brace, while defender Christian Romero ensured his name was on the scoresheet.

Postecoglou added former Bournemouth striker Dominic Solanke to his squad during the summer, spending a reported £55 million on the England international. The 26-year-old scored 21 goals for the Cherries last season. If Solanke can transfer that form to North London, Spurs will continue to be a big threat going forward.

Tottenham struggled in the early stages of the 2023/24 campaign in the post-Harry Kane era. With the options Postecoglou now has at his disposal in his attack, they should have no such problems this season.

Second Season of Angeball

This is now Postecoglou’s second season in charge of Tottenham so this is where he will be judged with the honeymoon period now over. His players have had plenty of time to adjust to ‘Angeball’ and the Australian will be looking to see his philosophy perfected on the pitch.

Postecoglou has played attacking football at every club he has managed. This is something Tottenham fans have welcomed in North London. With inverted full backs and relentless pressure, his side has a clear identity in the Premier League.

Although the results against Leicester and particularly Everton are encouraging, ‘Angeball’ will be fully tested when Tottenham face the top four teams from last season’s standings. Those are the games where we will see if Spurs have taken a big leap forward from the 2023/24 campaign.

If all goes well over the next nine months, hopefully, we will be celebrating following the final game of the season at home to Brighton.
