Tottenham rescued a 1-1 draw against Watford on Saturday afternoon and Toby Alderweireld was one of many players to come in for criticism from supporters. The 30-year-old has been short of form this season and looks a shadow of the player he once was.
Abdoulaye Doucouré opened the scoring for Watford in the sixth minute, beating Alderweireld to a cross from Darly Janmaat. It wasn’t just the Belgian’s man-marking that was flagged by fans, however. Alderweireld was incredibly wasteful in possession too.

Aurier – SHOCKING has been since he joined, constant errors but we have Foyth and KWP sitting there
Alderweireld – will be gone by end of season, nowhere near as good as he was (age related maybe) that amount of losing the ball against Watford isn’t justifiable, shocking— jord (@jordsuch) October 20, 2019
Sad to say but it's time for Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Dier, Wanyama, Rose, Aurier & Kane to go …
Kane not for the sake of us but for himself, he deserves better and we cant provide him that.
Poch also needs to go, too much of a nice guy.
Time for a hard rebuild.#THFC

Once again Alderweireld’s man is given time and space to score. He’s been dreadful this season. But so have many of the others. 😭#TOTWAT #THFC #COYS

Sorry to say Alderweireld , Vertonghen, and Rose are shadows of their former selves, the decline has been stark this season. Aurier is just rubbish. Give the youngsters their chance now.

Aurier and Alderweireld were real problems today.

As per WhoScored, Alderweireld played for 90 minutes, made 131 touches, created one chance, completed 79.7% of his 113 passes, whipped in four crosses, made one tackle, blocked one shot, made one interception, drew one foul and made four clearances.
Alderweireld has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, making one assist. The 30-year-old has played in every minute of every Premier League & Champions League game for Tottenham, conceding 22 goals and keeping only one clean sheet.
Spurs face FK Crvena Zvezda in their third Champions League group game on Tuesday, but it remains to be seen whether Alderweireld will keep his place at centre-back.
