“We Were Not Alert, Sleeping” – Jose Not Impressed With Spurs Showing & Clearly Demands Better

|

Jose Mourinho made his first return to Old Trafford to face former side Manchester United this evening and Tottenham Hotspur were looking for four wins on the spin in all competitions as we continue to turn our form around.

Goalscoring has proven to be little problem under Mourinho so far, however, at the other end of the pitch we continue to be leaky and prone to collapse.

Tonight was pretty much the same, difference being United made more of their efforts and we didn’t – albeit it was a poorer showing. Having taken the lead six minutes in, another Dele Alli goal counted for little as we conceded a penalty four minutes after the restart, and 2-1 was how the scoring finished.

Onto the next one, but this result will smart for Jose and we need to be better.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle, our gaffer said of our efforts on the night.

“We started the second half with a goal that it is impossible to concede. We were not alert, sleeping at the throw-in and we let Rashford attack. Once he is inside the box it’s more difficult to defend and he was clever and waited for the touch. In the first half they started more aggressive and more intense and deserved to be in front, maybe even 2-0, then we took control of the game. The goal at the start of the second half gave United the chance to play the way they did.”
