“We Never Recovered” – Pochettino Knows Brighton Deserved All Three Points From Spurs

|

Having bullishly defended the players after Tottenham Hotspur’s heavy 7-2 defeat to Bayern Munich in midweek in our Champions League clash, today’s Premier League action gave the players an opportunity to make a statement as we travelled to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton and Hove Albion.

With goalkeeper Hugo Lloris having a hand in their opener after only three minutes had been played, he suffered what looked a serious injury in the process, so ten minutes in, not only were we a goal down, we’d also seen Paulo Gazzaniga head on to the pitch.

The hosts doubled their advantage just after the half hour mark, and then made it 3-0 with 25 minutes remaining in the game and we simply had no response. There was arguably individual commitment on the day, but many will think that is one of the worst team performances we have seen for a long time.

More questions than answers again sadly.

Speaking to the BBC following the full time whistle, manager Mauricio Pochettino said of our reaction to last Tuesday.

“It was difficult to assess the team. In the first few moments we conceded and then lost our goalkeeper. It was very negative for the team, the emotion was massive. We did not play well. We are disappointed about that. Brighton played well. We cannot say that they did not deserve the three points. We never recovered from those opening few minutes. We could not change the dynamic of the game.”
