Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to slam Dele Alli and the club following their tweet regarding the star’s performances last season.

The England international was far from his best in the 2018/19 campaign and appeared to be rather anonymous at times on the pitch as well.
We might have reached a Champions League final, however, we scraped our way into the top four in the Premier League and Alli’s contributions were far from what we have become used to.
The former MK Dons man managed to net just seven goals and eight assists in his 38 matches across all competitions (Transfermarkt). When you consider it to his numbers of 14 goals and 17 assists in the 2017/18 campaign, perhaps it is not a surprise to see so many negative reactions to the club’s tweet.
However, there could be an argument that because of an extended season last year following England’s World Cup exploits in Russia, Alli was hardly ever going to be at his 100% best and would have found it extremely difficult to give Mauricio Pochettino the same type of performances he had provided us throughout the 17/18 campaign.
You just have to look at the likes of Keiran Trippier and Harry Kane to see the extra football that was played obviously had an impact on their performance levels.
But, it would appear Tottenham fans were not as forgiving on Twitter and took the opportunity to criticise the 23-year-old campaign last season.
One fan stated that he ‘wasn’t anywhere near his best’, whilst another shared the opinion by stating that Alli had a ‘pretty lowkey season’ for Spurs.
Here are just some of their reactions…
Pretty lowkey season. With ndombele signing we should push him higher up again to get the best out of him

A worrying amount of these ‘best bits’ came in the first game of the season. Wasn’t anywhere near his best this year

Much more from him next campaign for me.

It wasn’t very good because he spent too much time thinking he was a film star rather than a footballer.

Is this really worth talking about. It was awful. Yes he’s young but maybe spend more time trying to improve your game then trying to sell clothes!

There were no best bits, now announce Clarke
