Vital Spurs loan watch: Troy Parrott involved in six goal thriller

|

The Football League season got underway this weekend with thrilling action in the Championship, League One and League Two all taking place.

While we are expecting to see far more loanees from Spurs feature in the Football League this season, just three players have made temporary moves so far this Summer – so how did they get on?

Troy Parrott – Bolton 3-3 MK DONS

Republic of Ireland international Troy Parrott is hoping for a far more productive season after struggling out on loan at Millwall and then Ipswich last season, but MK Dons have faith in him and his debut was certainly an encouraging one.

The Dons were made to settle for a draw in a 3-3 thriller after Alex Baptiste scored a last ditch equaliser in the fifth minute of stoppage time to salvage a point for the hosts after the man who replaced Parrott, Hiram Boateng, put the visitors ahead just over ten minutes before.

Parrott, 19, could have had a goal himself after his strike partner Mo Eisa sent him through on goal, but after going round the Bolton keeper, George Johnston heroically cleared his shot off the line.

Jamie Bowden – OLDHAM 0-1 Newport County

Defensive midfielder Jamie Bowden is highly rated at Spurs and if he hadn’t have suffered unfortunate injuries over the last few years, he could have been fighting for a place in the first team – but instead he is in League Two where he is turning out for Oldham this season.

However, his season hasn’t got off to the start he would have hoped for, despite impressing in a slightly more advanced role than what we typically have got used to see him playing in for the Under 23’s.

It seems getting into good positions and winning the ball high up the pitch was not too much of an issue for Bowden, but picking out the final pass in advanced positions was what he could be focusing on improving to help Oldham bounce back in their next fixture.

Kion Etete – NORTHAMPTON 1-0 Port Vale

Giant six-foot-six striker Kion Etete was an unused substitute for Northampton at the weekend, but despite that his team got off to a comfortable winning start, beating ten-man Port Vale 1-0 at home.

Despite not featuring, we do expect Etete to get plenty of game time this season in League Two to aid his development.
