Veteran pundit Martin Tyler was recently asked for his opinion on Tottenham Hotspur’s Erik Lamela and his answer was unequivocal given his recent form for manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Sky Sports commentator held a question and answer session with the broadcasters Premier League Twitter account and he tagged the 26-year-old Argentine international as being ‘one of the outstanding players in the Premier League this season.’

High praise indeed and Tyler went on to credit him for his comeback from his long-term injury problems the other year, to really work himself back into a rich vein of form for the club.

As he closes in on his 200th club appearance following his big-money arrival from Roma back in 2013, Lamela has already won plenty of praise from the fanbase for the uplift in form we have seen from him and he does boast six goals in 13 appearances for us in 2018/19 so far, and there are hopes that his form will continue and he will reach double figures, if not more, for the campaign as we seek further improvement once again.

He’ll also be looking for far more starts as the month’s tick by.

  • Following on nicely from Juan Foyth’s MotM debut in Argentina’s first match v Mexico a few days ago, Lamela made his return to the team and supposedly ran the show in their second match v Mexico. Providing an assist just a couple of minutes into the match…

Also following on from Foyth, Gazzaniga made his Argentina debut and kept a clean sheet for them, also receiving good praise for his performance.

It doesn’t matter what nationality you are but if you play for Spurs under Pochettino, it’ll not be long before your being called up for your country and seen as being rather impressive…

All praise to the players but big credit should go to MP too…

  • HT well said. as poch was a central defender for clubs and Argentina, he has the insight to advise on CD, St and MF as to the various methods of playing in these positions, and how to gain advantage against their positional opponent when playing. That and being a decent guy, he is gaining the players support wherever he goes….. sign of a top class manager.

  • Not sure why people are surprised at Lamela. For probably the first time in his Spurs career he’s fully fit and benefiting from a full pre season. He’s always had the ability just a lot of bad luck with injuries.
