Tottenham fell short to Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon, drawing 1-1 in North London, and Moussa Sissoko was one of many players criticised for his below-par performance. The 30-year-old has been acting as a makeshift defensive-midfielder of late, but he’s not setting the place alight and has been slated on social media as a result.
Sissoko didn’t showcase any combative qualities against the Blades, nor was he particularly effective in the final third. The French international saw a lot of the ball over the 90 minutes, but he failed to turn over possession and provided very little creativity. If Spurs had better options in midfield, Sissoko’s place in the side may be up for grabs.
His recent performances have been poor. But he does protect the full backs. Maybe just a temporary dip in form. The whole team is struggling right now.

Not sure this is the defensive pairing we need. Far too many mistakes. And I know its controversial but I struggle to see what sissoko offers at the moment. #THFC #coys

sissoko is just bad very bad, constantly hiding from possession in the first half

Why Poch took Dele off for Foyth instead of Aurier, to then take Aurier off ten minutes later confuses me. Surely take Aurier off in a straight swap for Foyth. I can understand Winks coming on at HT, but should’ve been for Sissoko. Poch is a terrible in-game tactician #THFC

Dele being taken off is absolutely baffling. Are people now finally realising that Sissoko is a genuinely bad footballer? #THFC https://t.co/wQO0fxK90b

Against United, the 30-year-old made 76 touches, won two aerial duels, created one chance, completed 90.6% of his 64 passes, whipped in two crosses, made one clearance, blocked one shot and made one successful dribble. It wasn’t a vintage performance, but Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t have a lot of depth in his position.
Was it wise for Tottenham to give Moussa Sissoko a four-year deal?
Yes
No
Sissoko has made 16 appearances in all competitions this season, making two assists. He’s been a fan-favourite in 2019, but supporters are starting to turn after some below-par performances. Tottenham will be desperate to turn things around after the international break.
