Saturday’s early Premier League kick off saw Tottenham Hotspur travel to Vicarage Road to face resurgent Watford.
Spurs were looking to draw a line once again under our recent defeats, and Watford came into the tie unbeaten in six following the arrival of manager Nigel Pearson.
It wasn’t a great game really, and although both sides had plenty of efforts – few actually found their way to testing the goalkeeper, but on a statistics front, we did better egde it.
The two key moments really were their penalty which Paulo Gazzaniga saved and then Erik Lamela’s effort late on in stoppage time, which was cleared from the line with only millimetres remaining.
Manager Jose Mourinho certainly felt we deserved more from the tie, telling the BBC.
“The result is unfair. I think it would have been more unfair if we lost. We had the control of the game, especially in the first half. We arrived in dangerous positions. We created chances but we did not manage to score.”
There are a few things worth mentioning from that game though, it’s the first time since November 2013 that we have failed to score in three consecutive league games, Watford ended a run of 93 league games without a scoreless draw apparently (the second longest run in history) and we kept our first away clean sheet in 382 days going back to Cardiff on New Year’s Day 2019.
Make of that what you will.
