Undynamic, profligate, expensive – Tottenham’s latest transfer-target revealed

|

According to InterLive, Tottenham could agree a deal with Inter Milan for Matias Vecino. The 27-year-old has been a regular at the San Siro since joining from Fiorentina in 2017, but Inter are reportedly willing to sell Vecino for £25.5m this summer. Spurs have been linked, but it’s unlikely Mauricio Pochettino is setting his stall out to sign the midfielder and here’s why…

Undynamic

After selling Mousa Dembele, Tottenham need a like-for-like replacement who can do the defensive duties and also drive with the ball from deep, turning defence into attack. Vecino struggles to carry the ball at his feet, however, averaging only one successful dribble every 107.5 minutes so he may not be ideal for Spurs.

Profligate

It’s imperative that a central midfielder is composed in possession and doesn’t relinquish the ball cheaply. Vecino, however, only competes 82% of his 33 passes-per-game which isn’t anywhere near good enough to play under Pochettino.

Expensive

With the Uruguayan undynamic and profligate, it’s hard to see Tottenham spending £25m on procuring his signature. According to Transfermarkt, The Londoners’ have only spent over £20m on one midfielder – Moussa Sissoko. They won’t do the same for a player that doesn’t possess the required attributes.
