Udogie deal edges closer

|

After news emerged midweek of Spurs’ reignited discussions with Udinese for 19 year-old fullback Destiny Udogie, Fabrizio Romano has reported that a breakthrough between all parties has been made and the deal is close to completion. Earlier this morning, the Italian reporter tweeted that:

Indeed, Sky Italia have reinforced Romano’s claims on stating that Udogie is becoming “ever closer to becoming a new Tottenham player”. Like Romano, they claim that personal terms have been agreed between the player for a fee of approximately €20 million up front, which may rise to €26 million if bonuses are accounted for.

The report adds that Udogie was left out of Udinese’s Coppa Italia victory on Friday night against Feralpisalò due to negotiations with Spurs, which are now at their closing stages if Calcio Mercato are to be believed. The Italian outlet has reinforced the initial claims about the potential deal that Udogie’s signing will see the Italian under-21 international rejoin his current employers on a season-long loan. In addition, Calcio Mercato expect the deal to be tied up at some point next week.

The signing is made all the more impressive when considering the competition we’ve beaten off in order to emerge as frontrunners for Udogie’s signature, with Calcio Mercato’s report stating that Serie A heavyweights Inter and Juventus were also interested in the youngster. This notion has also been echoed by Sport Witness, who claim that Brighton, Manchester City had also expressed an interest in the young left-back before we swooped in to agree terms.

The time to prepare for next year was last year, but today will do,

Take advantage of the work you’ve done. Do the work you’re doing, And prepare for the work to come. A very good signing for the future, as you say.

Of course, he may be on next year’s N’dombele/Lo Celso list.

Hard work doesn’t always pay off.
