Transfer Round-up

|

Before I dive into the article’s content, this is just to say that this is not necessarily a discussion piece, but rather a round-up of the comings and goings at the club as transfer deadline day – Thursday September 1st – approaches.

The primary discussion piece – the match preview for tomorrow’s match at West Ham – can be found here. Nevertheless, feel free to comment to your heart’s content, but this is just a general news piece for those bemoaning the excessive presence of articles.

Onto the content, and today certainly has been a busy day at Hotspur Way. It all kicked off with the confirmation of the permanent signing of Argentinian centre-back and fan favourite Cristian Romero, who put pen to paper on a five year contract to turn his loan move from Atalanta into a permanent one for a fee of approximately €50 million euros, as reported by The Athletic. He officially becomes our 8th first-team signing this summer despite being on our books for over a year now.

There has also been crucial movement in terms of outgoings, with Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon finally sealing a loan move away to Atletico Madrid, joining Diego Simeone’s side for the season in a bid to secure regular first-team football ahead of the Qatar World Cup.

In the last half an hour, English midfielder and academy product Harry Winks has joined Serie A side Sampdoria on loan for the season. Like Reguilon, he too will be seeking the first-team action that has alluded him since the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur in January.

Yves Bissouma’s arrival and Oliver Skipp’s rise to prominence have pushed Winks further down the pecking order, so all the best to him in Italy as he seeks to rediscover the form that endeared him to Spurs fans when he first burst onto the scene under Poch. Irrespective of whether or not he rediscovers this form to our benefit, Sampdoria have disclosed that they have the option to make Winks’ loan permanent upon its conclusion, so it appears that he does not have a future at the club.

Omar …. Why have you minimised the matchday thread for a transfer thread? The matchday thread is where the discussion and passion is found.

A pity we could not sell the loanees. Just shows how their value has plummeted. So glad to see the temporary back of Lo Celso and N’Dombele … two disastrous signings.
Thought Reguilon was ok. Always tried his best and stronger than Sessegnon.
Winks made no progress. Could tackle a bit but poor passer, couldn’t dribble and couldn’t shoot. A very average utility player. Needs to develop his skills.
I feel that Tanganga and Lucas could still be sold. We can do better. Same as Doherty and Emerson Royal. OK but nothing special. We should aim higher.

LOL Geof. Seems Omar anaticipated your reaction and told us at the beginning of this thread that he expected no comments here. We’ll have to get used to his ways. He wrote here that this thread is not for discussions and we should go to the thread for the Spam match. But, here we are discussing where we should. The could be a philosopher’s or a linguist’s delight–a discussion about discussions. How reflexive can it get?

As for me, I’m famous for knobheadedness, so I’m taking the bait.

Glad to see the real signing of Romero. The back line can do with a bit of bite–or must we spell that byte now?

Glad to see Winks’s backside. Nice enough lad, but no byte to his game. (Should that be no bite to his game?)

Here’s a match comment for those who lost their way on the way to finding the match thread: I surely hope Richarlison de Andrade starts today’s Spam feast. (Ugh! Can you imagine a literal Spam feast? What is that stuff, anyway? Ham mixed with sawdust?)

So, for those who lost their way and ended up reading the comments here–which Ox discouraged us from writing: de Andrade Richarlison to make two assists and a goal today. Spurs to take the must-win three points to keep us from sliding backwards from third place to 3rd place. May the gods forbid all sideways routes to backwards.

Is the Brexit interpretation of PL rosters that no non-Englishman should play in England? or could a Welshman or a Scotsman still work in London? At least until their separation votes are counted?

And no managers can work in the UK who hold an EU passport? Out Conte! Bring back Harry Red-napping.

I guess we could replace Conte with an Irish manager, since an Irish manager could pass into the UK by moving from South Ireland to North Ireland without showing documentations, although such a manager might get held up at the border between North Ireland to Liverpool.

Hell of a confusing world when considering who can be signed and who must be tossed as a tosser.

But today’s important comment: Come on you de Andrade! Stand in for Richarlison and give us a goal and two assists today. Oh, and irritate the Spammers by a show in which you hold the ball in the air using only your feet and knees. Shows of skill frowned up these days. Pallid preferred.

Bissouma plays. Hopefully, he will drive us forward.

Still time to make a couple of good signings.

C’mon Spurs be bold; be adventurous; go for gold. We need a creative midfielder and a winger who can beat a man and cross the ball. We are nearly there.

    wentworth,

If the team is totally boring us to death on the pitch, the least they can do is to provide a bit of a surprise on the transfer side. Something like hearing that Bryan Gil has signed a 10 year contract for billions a year to be paid in Japanese toothpicks, a move that will preclude all other signings in our life times.
