Tottenham’s move for Italian centre half now “an open situation” as January transfer window approaches

|

According to GiveMeSport, Spurs are yet to open negotiations with Inter Milan over a potential move for Italian centre-half Alessandro Bastoni, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists the move is still “an open situation.”

This comes as Italian publication InterLive reported the Lilywhites are keen on adding Bastoni to their defensive roster, with a bid of around £43 million likely to be placed.

Bastoni of course is no stranger to links with Spurs as he was reportedly amongst a four-man shortlist back in the summer.

However, any potential move for the 23-year-old remains up in the air with Romano telling GiveMeSport:

At the moment, nothing is going on between Tottenham and Inter or Tottenham and Bastoni’s agents, so it’s still an open situation.”

So, would Bastoni be a worthwhile signing? We have dived into the stats (provided by FB Ref) to find out.

Bastoni is not your typical centre-half as he loves to roam forward, often creating chances for his side. This is shown by the fact he is in the top 2% of centre half’s (across Europe’s top five leagues) for assists, passes into the penalty area and key passes.

Should Spurs sign Alessandro Bastoni?

YES

NO

In terms of defensive statistics, the 23-year-old does not particularly shine as he only ranks in the top 50% for tackles, blocks and interceptions. However, his role at Inter is more aimed at progressing the ball from deep.

In terms of adapting to life in England, the defender stands at 6ft 2, so he should be able to deal with the physical challenges of the Premier League. The transition to the Premier League will also be made easier by the fact Bastoni almost exclusively plays on the left-hand side of a back three so he should slot into Conte’s system perfectly.

Pointless article, he won’t be leaving Italy let alone Inter milan.

The point of the article is clear: the writers are paid by the article. More articles, more opportunities to get paid. The owners of the site are stupid to set it up this way. They shoud pay the writers by the number of comments that are generated. Then the site would return to life. As it is, the site is dying. But let’s note blame omar and mitchel. They’re doing what they are being paid to do.

Not quite sure if it is a viable proposition to advertise on a site that nobody visits. Actually, I am sure.
