Tottenham’s bad habit they must break against Portsmouth – Opinion

|

Spurs have a very rich history when it comes to the FA Cup with the Lilywhites winning it a total of eight times, putting them third in the all-time winners list alongside Chelsea and Liverpool.

However, in recent years Spurs not been able to recreate there FA Cup magic of past years, creating a bad habit of exiting the competition in the early rounds . With the Lilywhites struggling in recent years, to get to the business end of the competition – not getting past the 5th round since 2018.

In that time, Spurs have been knocked out by clubs such as Middlesbrough, Everton, Norwich and Crystal Palace. This is a record that must be improved on if the club have any chance of breaking there trophy drought, which will reach the 15 year mark this February.

Antonio Conte and his side will hope to change this wretched record when League One side Portsmouth visit the Tottenham Hotspur stadium this Saturday (Match Preview here).

Thankfully, for Spurs fans Antonio Conte is no stranger to an FA Cup triumph, winning the competition with Chelsea back in 2018. Conte, however has not been able to recreate any of that cup success since joining Spurs, losing two of his four cup ties so far (Carabao Cup and FA Cup) , most recently being defeated 2-0 by Nottingham Forest in the 3rd round of the Carabao Cup.
