Tottenham won’t sign highly-rated Englishman for £15m in January – opinion

|

According to The Sun, Tottenham are considering a £15m bid for Max Aarons, with the Londoners reportedly scouting the Norwich City defender in every game this season. Should Spurs procure his signature in January, he would be loaned back to Norwich for the rest of the season. RB Leipzig are also keen on the right-back, but Tottenham may not be in the race to sign Aarons next month.

Mauricio Pochettino has Kieran Trippier, Serge Aurier and Kyle Walker-Peters who can operate at right-back, so why would he spend £15m on extra competition for a position he’s already overstocked in? It makes no sense, even if Aarons is a highly-rated player. Tottenham may have scouted the defender, but until an existing player is sold, it’s hard to see Aarons being brought in next month.

Walker-Peters was recently handed a contract extension, so Pochettino definitely has no plans to shake up his defensive options just yet. Both Trippier and Aurier have four more years on their deals while Walker-Peters’ contract is set to expire in 2023. Tottenham have already played down spending in January, so don’t expect to see a right-back recruited next month.
