Tottenham have been dealt a blow, with Manchester United described by the Mirror as the leading contenders to sign Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Tanguy Ndombele. The 21-year-old turned his loan deal from SC Amiens permanent over the summer and has gone on to make 22 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring and creating six goals.
Tottenham were one of many sides linked with his signature, but they’ll have to spend a tidy sum to bring Ndombele to London. The French international signed a five-year deal for Lyon in July, so the Ligue 1 giants hold all the cards to a transfer. Reports state that bids in excess of £45m were turned down by Lyon who want a figure closer to £90m – something that might end Spurs’ interest.
Mauricio Pochettino is being linked with a host of central midfielders due to the uncertain future of Mousa Dembele, but Ndombele might be a waste of Tottenham’s time. He’s still a fresh signing at Lyon and has attracted the interest of clubs with considerably more money than Spurs. Given Daniel Levy didn’t sanction a summer signing, why would a £90m deal be on cards mid-season? Can’t see this one happening.
