Tottenham without two players for FA Cup clash, Pochettino ‘needs to assess’ trio

|

Mauricio Pochettino will be without Dele Alli (hamstring) and Harry Kane (ankle) for Tottenham’s FA Cup clash with Crystal Palace, but he said he “needs to assess” Ben Davies (groin), Victor Wanyama (knee) and Moussa Sissoko (knee) before confirming whether they will feature.

Alli and Kane are both sidelined until March. The former suffered his hamstring injury in Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Fulham on January 20 while the latter tore his ankle ligaments when Spurs lost to Manchester United on January 13. They are the only injury worries, however, as three players are set to return.

Pochettino could hand Wanyama his first appearance since November. He said to Football.London: “I need to assess him tomorrow. It’s a player who for a long period was away. We cannot expect that he arrives and starts to perform in his best way. Of course to help the team but still one day more and we’ll see if he can be available or not.”

Davies suffered a groin strain in Spurs’ League Cup semi-final exit to Chelsea and was replaced in the first-half. His injury isn’t thought to be serious, however, and he could return to face Palace. Pochettino said he would assess the left-back. Sissoko is also in the frame to return, but he too will need looking at before any decision is made.

Heung-min Son recently returned from the Asian Cup with South Korea and may need a rest before featuring for Spurs again. Tottenham are favourites to see past Palace to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
