Tottenham without four players for Barcelona clash ‘due to injury’

|

Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Mousa Dembele (ankle), Juan Foyth (hamstring), Davinson Sanchez (hamstring) and Victor Wanyama (knee) will miss Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Barcelona ‘due to injury’. The four players have not travelled to Spain.

The Lilywhites travel to the Camp Nou with qualification on the line. A win on the night would put Spurs into the last-16, but beating the Group B leaders in their own backyard won’t be easy. Inter Milan could snatch second place in the table if they better Tottenham’s result, so the pressure is on for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to get a rare win at the home of the Catalan giants.

Their hopes of a shock result aren’t helped with injuries to their two centre-backs and two central midfielders, but Pochettino can trust upon Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld at the heart of the backline and Eric Dier to provide protection ahead of the defence. Moussa Sissoko has been in fine form of late and may find himself starting in midfield too.

With Barcelona boasting four wins and a draw from their five group games, in addition to Tottenham having picked up just one point from two away outings in the Champions League, Pochettino’s men are clear underdogs at the Camp Nou.
